I am a consultant psychiatrist, specialising in the outpatient treatment of all forms of adult mental disorder.
I originally trained at the University of Birmingham and qualified in 1982. I then trained on the University of Exeter Vocational Training Scheme becoming a principal in general practice in 1987.
During this time, I was the deputy police surgeon to Exeter ‘D’ Division, as well as the visiting medical officer to HM Prison Exeter.
In 2000 I commenced training in psychiatry, working in North Devon, Plymouth, Cornwall and Exeter hospitals, obtaining membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2003, completing my post-graduate psychiatric training in 2006. From 2006 to 2015 I was a full-time NHS consultant in psychiatry, specialising in adult primary care liaison psychiatry.
I am a GMC health examiner and performance assessor as well as consultant to the Medical Protection Society. I undertake a wide range of medical expert work especially with health regulatory bodies. I was a member of the First Tier Tribunal until 2017 and a member of the Parole Board 2008-2011.
